Smbclient windows tree connect failed nt status bad network name

After doing 'smbpassws -a , it started to work. Lost most of a day in the process. For me, the problem was permissions on a directory 2 levels above the one I was trying to share. A simple 'chmod dir' resolved the problem very nicely. Incidently, I also found that one of the entries in the smb. Hope that helps someone! I'm sure it will help others with the same problem.
