How much faster is windows 7 than xp

Arainach said:. Yes, it was, actually. Perf on low-end hardware was one of the things they talked about focusing most on in the Win7 Blog. Older and lower end hardware, yes. If that were true there would be Win7 drivers for hardware e.

I've got a P4 machine myself and can attest to the fact 7 runs faster than both XP and Vista I also threw new RAM into it.

Perfectly capable of most any task. Windows 7 is great. I digged into my parts graveyard and found a Tnt 2 pro. Installed it, put some old drivers and it works. XP has SP3 and latest updates, Windows 7 is also up to date. The most noticeable difference in performance is in application launch, task switching and tab browsing with IE or Firefox. XP does boot much faster at vs sec. If you're leaving the machine alone, just sleep it. My Win7 laptop resumes from sleep in a split second. I think it even boots faster than my Q box, ha. Joined Oct 29, Messages 2, Joined Aug 18, Messages 1, Joined Jul 19, Messages 11, LawGiver 2[H]4U. New Transformations : Well, maybe that is a wrong point but yes, it is always better to improve your software.

Windows 7 is technically a big change since Windows XP. It introduces some really new features in all dimensions of computing. Moreover XP is now almost 10 years old.

You would like to use Microsoft Office now, not the XP version of office. Because it gets the job done well and more easily. It's the same reason why you should use Windows 7. Improved security in Windows 7 : Windows XP had lot of flaws in its design when compared to the Windows Vista and hence Windows 7 design. This allowed malicious hackers to create problems on your computer, steal data and risk your privacy.

Windows 7 has no default administrator account like it was in Windows XP. So before guessing the password, there is an added problem of guessing the username! Also, when you are using the administrator account in Windows XP, any program you run will get all the access to the system. It is not the case with windows 7. Even when running the computer from an administrator account, the applications or software you run will not have access to the whole system.

So while you can do anything you want, the software cannot do the same. Hence it makes it tough for the virus writers to alter the system settings. In case the software wants to gain the administrative powers, Windows will come up with a pop up box and ask you whether or not you want to allow the application those privileges.

I myself have been save at least 10 times by this feature when viruses coming from USB pen drives tried to infect my system!

Windows 7 Administratorship : if you want to run an application with full administrative powers, it is easy. Instead of double clicking the application, just right click it or its shortcut and click on "Run as administrator" which usually has an additional icon of a shield with it. It will come up with the same confirmation box. In case you are not the administrator then the system will first ask the password of one of the system administrators.

If the correct password is not supplied, it won't allow the application to run on and probably mess up your system. Windows 7 Compatibility Issues? If there are some software application which refuses to run altogether on your machine, the Windows 7 OS now comes with a "full compatibility" mode where you can run a complete virtual Windows XP and then run your application from within in.

Windows 7 GUI : The interface has been improved to a great extent and now you can get your job done faster and easier. W7 runs faster on my quad than XP did. On a new computer with a lot of ram, 7 runs faster than xp , isn't it? But xp was faster than Ubuntu , which implies 7 is faster than Ubuntu , isn't it?

My friend told that , on a pentium4 with 1 gb ram , 7 runs faster than xp. This is going to bat up and down by opinions on the fact. For some faster and for some slower It runs close to XP is what they say since it runs on netbooks altho thats the starter version It may be a bit heavier ram wise with the effects and all i'm sure but I am sure it is possible that it runs close to speed of XP Its way faster than Vista from what I hear though which is good for windows users I guess.

On my PC Xp 32 bit is very slow and gives a lot of blue screens. Xp 64 bit however is very fast and out performs windows 7. Windows 7 whem loged in isn't directly responsive unlike vista and I find theur speeds similar once started on my machine. Kubuntu 9. If you have 1. Well said! However the prefetch is substantially better in 7 I'm guessing so , so it might feel a bit snappier to do the same tasks after a week or so of using it.

At least that's what's said anyway I dunno, seems about the same, once I've turned Aero off. Maybe a tad slower but that might be my imagination :. Maybe a tad slower but that might be my imagination : On my machine that was made to run XP, it runs slightly slower. But that may be because I have a Hyper-threading Pentium 4 3.

Even if the computer was originally meant for Windows 7, Windows XP would probably still run faster considering it is lighter than Windows 7. On the flip side, however, it is also much, much older. The tests were nothing special just basic start up times and file transfer, the difference was not very much and generally unnoticeable for everyday use. Windows 7 has a lot more optimisations compared to XP. Also, W7 uses Trigger Services to keep hundreds of services from running constantly.

Why can't Linux do this? Or can it? Just wondering. On my new acer aspire netbook with 2 gigs ram and a not worn out HD W7 runs considerably faster then the stock XP did. It also runs faster but only slightly then Karmic. As Frak suggested the W7 set-up to keep the background stuff minimal is probably part of the answer, Also if you try to test W7 on a worn HD then you will probably not get the best performance, and I have seen Linux run with this same problem.

Since they've just been exposed, yes, Linux doesn't have them because nobody thought of it yet. You can't benchmark two different OS's against each other. What are you going to do, transcode a video file? With what? Windows and Linux have different methods to do that. It'd be unfair to use a Linux tool on Windows because Windows has better tools for the job.

In the same respect, you can't compare that against Linux because Linux doesn't have that tool available to it.
